Keyboard

The on-screen keyboard does not appear

Android often hides the on-screen keyboard when a scanner is connected because the scanner identifies itself as a physical keyboard.

  1. Open the tablet’s Settings app.
  2. Search Settings for “physical keyboard” or “show on-screen keyboard.”
  3. Turn on the option to show the virtual keyboard while a physical keyboard is connected.
  4. Return to CryoIndex and tap a text field.

Paths seen on common Android tablets

Android manufacturers move this setting, so the device maker matters at least as much as the Android version.

  • Samsung Galaxy tablets: Settings → General management → Physical keyboard → turn on Show on-screen keyboard.
  • Many stock-Android tablets: Settings → System → Keyboard → Physical keyboard → turn on Use on-screen keyboard.
  • If neither path exists, use Settings search for physical keyboard, virtual keyboard, or on-screen keyboard while the scanner is connected.
