Backup and replacement tablets

A backup file was refused

CryoIndex validates a backup before replacing anything. A refusal leaves the tablet’s current inventory unchanged.

  1. Read and record the exact refusal message.
  2. Confirm that you selected a CryoIndex backup rather than a CSV inventory report. Current backups end in .cix-backup; the picker may also show legacy .json or .txt copies.
  3. If the backup came from a newer CryoIndex version, update the receiving tablet before trying again.
  4. If the file may be damaged, try the next-newest backup instead.

What the refusal means

The exact wording varies, but refusals fall into these actionable groups. Every refusal occurs before replacement and ends with “Nothing was changed.”

  • Not a CryoIndex backup: the wrong file was selected. Choose a backup, not the inventory or fill-log CSV export.
  • Incomplete or damaged: copying was interrupted, the contents are missing, or the database failed its integrity check. Try the next-newest independent backup.
  • Made by a newer app: update the receiving tablet to the same or a newer CryoIndex version. Do not try to force the restore.
  • The file disagrees with itself: its header, database version, tables or columns are inconsistent. Use another unedited backup.
  • The inventory would not make sense: examples include two vials in one position, duplicate stored barcodes, locations outside a box, or records pointing to storage the file does not contain. The guard is preventing an unsafe replacement.
  • The file is no longer available: Android’s temporary reference expired or the drive was disconnected. Reconnect it and choose the file again.
